2 West Ashley Center for Advanced Studies
West Ashley Center for Advanced Studies is a modern facility that offers students from West Ashley High School, St. John’s High School, and Baptist Hill Middle-High School access to eleven College and Career Pathways.
It has dedicated staff ensuring students receive practical experiences that prepare them for competitive, high-paying jobs.
Its mission is to guide students toward becoming CTE completers with certifications recognized by the State of South Carolina for College or Career Readiness.
About The Welding Program
West Ashley Center for Advanced Studies offers several courses, including Welding.
Their Welding program consists of four courses: Welding Technology 1, 2, 3 & 4.
Welding Technology 1 will cover the basic Oxy-Fuel cutting applications, Shielded Metal Arc Welding or (Stick Welding), structural welding basics, safety, and hazard prevention.
The Welding Technology 2 course will focus on welding processes such as FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
Welding Technology 3 is a more advanced welding technique from Welding 1 & 2; it also includes structural code welds, open root V-groove plate, and V-groove plate with backing strips.
The Welding Technology 4 will focus on preparing students for their careers in welding through on-the-job training and internships.

3 Arclabs Welding School
Arclabs Welding School is a training center that caters to beginner and experienced welders.
It provides welder training, testing, and certification.
Arclabs also supports businesses in the welding sector with employee training, certification, OSHA Construction & General Industry courses (10 hours), inspection courses, welding consultancy, and the drafting of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
It is one of the few Accredited Testing Facilities for the American Welding Society (AWS) in South Carolina.
About The Welding Program
Arclabs offers four Welding Programs such as 1,300 Hours Master Welder, 900 Hours Advanced Welding, 400 and 280 Hour Welding Program.
Aside from these programs, it also offers a Specialty Seminar program.
The Master Welder program covers hands-on training accounts and advances your FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW skills in shop and outdoor simulators.
You can choose your specialization, whether Advanced Structural Welding or Advanced Pipe Welding.
The 900-hour Advance Welding will focus on structural welding suitable for beginners or some welders with experience.
It covers SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and GMAW.
The 400 & 280 will cover the following welding processes: GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW, ideal for developing entry-level welder skills.
However, the 400-hour Welding Program is only available in Texas.
Upon completion of Master’s and advanced welding training, you will earn certificates.
