Training Requirements For Ultrasound Technicians
In Ohio, the state does not require any license, but you should have one in order to get hired.
The ultrasound tech licenses are offered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
To get a certification, you will need to attend a training course.
You can easily get into a program by choosing a community college or trade school.
You can also choose between an online program or in-person training.
The programs require:
- A year of schooling and 30 credits for a diploma
- Two years and 60 credits for an Associate’s degree
- Four years and 120 credits for a Bachelor’s degree
Although the fastest way to get a license is the one year program, getting a higher degree opens more career opportunities.
When choosing a program, you should also decide whether you want to attend part-time or full time.
After you complete your training, you can get a license offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
