The training program at Trident Technical College for Phlebotomy is a non-credit course.

However, it will in part prepare you for the national certification exam (after you take 100 hours of clinical training and 4 hours of BLS/CPR training on top of your 72 hours of classroom training.

Courses Offered

While in this program, you’ll learn practical and theoretical knowledge such as selecting and preparing a site on the patient for venipuncture, collecting specimens, preparing and maintaining equipment, and establishing a professional patient/healthcare staff relationship.

You’ll also gain a full understanding of the legal aspects of this career, and health and safety matters involved in the field.

There are 48 hours of in-class training that consists of bookwork, hands-on experience, and a practical exam.

This prepares you to conduct blood draws, use medical devices for greater use at finding veins and conducting blood draws, understand medical terms and some anatomy & physiology, among other things.

On the last class day, you may choose to take the National Exam if you feel as though you’re ready for it.
