Located in Bossier City and CAAHEP accredited, Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) offers a technical diploma and associate degree in medical assisting.
The technical diploma is a 45-credit requirement which includes coursework and a practicum.
Many students earning the diploma proceed into entry-level positions but can also pursue the associate degree with an additional 15 credits.
Programs
Both programs cover physiology, human anatomy, medical terminology, front office procedures and computer software, insurance, billing, and an introduction to allied health.
The difference between the degrees is the associate is more comprehensive and detailed than the diploma option.

Located across Lake Pontchartrain and with other campuses in Baton Rouge, Slidell, and Lafayette, Delta College has a medical assisting certificate program that trains students for entry-level healthcare work.
Students must complete lab, clinical, and classroom work in a day program that can be completed in 7.5 months or an evening program that requires a 12-month commitment.

5 Gonzales Medical Assistant School

Located halfway between NOLA and Baton Rouge, the Gonzales Medical Assistant School is a convenient option for those in the suburbs of either city.
The school offers a certificate program that can be completed in as little as 24 weeks and includes an 80-hour externship, lab work, and in-class lectures.
Classes are held on Saturdays in a morning session from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM or an afternoon session from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
