Cosmetology Exams in Vermont

You will need to take and pass three examinations to get the license in Vermont:

Cosmetology Jurisprudence Exam

Professional Credential Services (PCS) are regulating the examination.

Upon graduation, you should fill in an online application for these with PCS.

The Written Exam has questions related to hair care and hair services, scientific concepts of cosmetology, nail care and skin care and services

It can be done in Colchester and Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Cosmetology Practical Exam can be taken in Montpelier once each month.

You are supposed to bring up to two mannequins on which you will be providing:

• Proper set-up with adequate client protection
• Thermal curling – demonstrated with a cold iron
• Chemical waiving
• Haircutting
• Virgin hair lightening and hair color retouch
• Virgin relaxer application and retouch
• Basic facial and manicure
• Nail sculpturing

There are also 50 supplies that you need to bring with you when you come to the practical exam and some of those are:

• Thermal curling iron
• Razor
• Combs
• Red nail polish

The Vermont Cosmetology Jurisprudence Exam is administered by the Iso-Quality Testing company.

You will be given a username and password you can use to log on to Iso-Quality Testing and register for the exam.

The testing center is in Burlington and you will have to show your knowledge about the Vermont Statutes and Rules.

When you pass all your examinations PCS will notify the Vermont Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists of your results and you will be issued your cosmetology license.

License

If you want to open your salon, but do not have enough money for all the equipment, you can consider a booth rental.

This means that you will rent a chair or space, set your prices and keep all the profits you make. But you must adhere to the same general requirements as all salons.

A reciprocal license is also available in Vermont for people who gained a license in some other state, whose requirements were similar.

They are supposed to submit a Cosmetology Endorsement Application with the Vermont Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists.

The requirements are that you need to have 1,500 hours of classroom instruction or you have worked as a cosmetologist for three years preceding your application in Vermont or as a cosmetologist for at least 2,000 hours in one year.

The home state’s board of cosmetology needs to send a Verification of Licensure Form to Vermont’s Office of Professional Regulation.

The Cosmetology Jurisprudence Exam for Vermont also needs to be done with PCS before the issuing of the license.
