Completing the training programs gives you the chance to sit for a licensing exam.

After you pass this test, you have to apply to get your work permit.

The work permit can only be maintained if you renew it annually.

You also need to attend 12 more hours of education to have your permit renewed.

There are many classes you will take during your program, and these include:

  • Processes of development and aging
  • Personal care services
  • Infection control
  • Nutrition
  • Maintaining the least restrictive environment
  • Body mechanics
  • Assistive technology

If you want to train, first you should meet the below criteria:

  • Be 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma
  • Pass a tuberculosis test
  • Pass a background check
  • Be able to read and to write
  • No addictions and a healthy lifestyle

A GED is acceptable instead of a high school diploma.

Although the healthcare industry generally requires years of training, this is not the case for home health aides.

You can finish a training program after only a few weeks.

Of course, you can choose to train longer if you want increased pay.

Some of the options include taking a CPR course, an anatomy class, or pursuing higher education.
