1 Delgado Community College
About the School
Delgado Community College offers more than 100 programs of study and technical certificates.
The classes are held online or hybrid, as well as during the day and at night, at seven campuses.
The programs are separated into seven categories:
- Allied Health
- Arts & Humanities
- Business & Technology
- Nursing
- Communication
- Science & Math
- Technical
Electrician Training
The school offers three electrician programs from which students can choose the one that fits their needs: residential, commercial, and small industrial.
All three programs last three semesters, but their required credit hours vary.
The small industrial program is 33 credit hours and lasts three semesters.
Students learn how to properly install, operate, maintain, and repair electrical systems for industrial buildings.
The commercial program is 30 credit hours and three semesters long.
Students learn how to properly install, operate, maintain, and repair electric systems within the commercial environment.
The residential program is 25 credit hours long and lasts only two semesters.
Students learn how to properly install, operate, maintain, and repair electrical systems in the residential environment.

2 New Orleans Job Corps Center
About the School
The school is a U.S. Department of Labor Equal Opportunity Employment Program.
The mission of Job Corps is to educate and train young people in trades and skills that will help them find employment and begin their careers right after graduating from the program.
By doing this, the New Orleans Job Corps Center also aids young people in becoming fulfilled and financially independent right off the bat.
Electrician Training
To be accepted into the program, future students must meet the following requirements:
- Complete the Career Exploration and Career Success/Workplace Skills
- Complete the Career Preparation Period
- Meet the requirements in reading and math
Once accepted into the program, students will learn skills such as:
- Installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring and equipment
- Making sure that the electrical work is up to the industry codes
- Connecting wires to components like transformers and circuit breakers
- Understanding and following electrical safety

3 NOTEP Trade School
About the School
NOTEP offers carpentry, electrical, and HVAC training to adults and high school students.
The school is partnered with the Louisiana Department of Education, which allows high-school students to gain academic credit and industry credentials.
Students who graduate from the program can apply to post-secondary institutions or find jobs through the school’s Next Steps Initiative.
Electrical Program
Similar to the other programs that the school offers, the electrical program is divided into Core, and Levels 1 & 2
The tuition is $1250 per level.
Within the electrical program, students are taught to create, maintain, and reprise the equipment and other electronic components that are being used in residential facilities.
Students can take classes at NOTEP after school/work or during the day.
Additionally, they can earn NCCER credentials or high-school credit, and the school provides recommendation letters and job referrals.

4 The University of New Orleans
The school offers a variety of programs from categories such as:

Electrical Technician (online)
The school offers two online electrical technician programs.
The courses are the same, except for the fact that one of them includes the tools, which raises the tuition by $500.
The courses are 120 hours long and last 12 months.
Students will learn about electrical systems and troubleshooting, production floor safety, robot maintenance, and installation.
The program is divided into nine different categories:
- Math
- Inspection
- Safety
- Quality and Manufacturing Management
- Machining
- Electrical/Mechanical Systems and Motor Controls

The tuition is $2360 for the electrical technician course, with students having the option of making monthly payments of $115.
