Apprenticeship
In order to get licensed, you first need to meet some training criteria to take the journeyman exam.
In Nevada, each city has its own licensing regulations.
Reno
The training for the residential journeyman lasts for 6,000 hours of experience over 3 years.
The training for the general journeyman lasts for 8,000 hours of experience over 4 years.
Clark County (Las Vegas)
In Clark County, you don’t need to meet any other requirements than having completed an apprenticeship program and take the licensing exam.

Apprenticeship Programs
You can join a union program, for which you have to register with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).
To apply, you need:
- To be 18 years old
- Have a driver’s license
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of algebra class
- Pass a drug and skills test
Such programs typically last for 4 years and include 8,000 hours of training.
In Reno, you need to have an Apprentice Electrical Certificate for the duration of your training program.
