To be eligible for admission, applicants to this electrician program must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

2 CBT Technology Institute

CBT Technology Institute offers students two electrician training programs.

CBT offers a 24-credit electricity technician diploma that can be completed in eight months.

In addition, CBT Technology Institute offers an Associate of Science degree in Electrical Technology – a 20-month program that requires 60 semester credits to complete the program.

This CBT Technology program has received accreditation by the COE – the Council on Occupational Education.

Sample coursework for this FITI-900 lecture/lab hour program includes direct current and alternating current circuits, commercial and residential wiring, and blueprint reading, to name a few.

4 Miami-Dade County Public Schools – Technical College

The Technical College of Miami-Dade County Public Schools partners with various education specialists to offer high school students and adults training programs.

The electrician partnership is between the county school district and the Electrical Training Alliance ­– among the top publishers of educational materials specific to the electric industry over the past seven decades.

These apprenticeship opportunities for electricians from the Technical College are available to eligible high school seniors within the Miami-Dade County school district.

The program requires 150 hours of classroom instruction plus 1,500 hours of paid training/employment.

5 Miami Dade College

Miami Dade College offers a two-year Associate of Arts degree program in Engineering with an academic concentration in electricity on a number of Miami Dade College campuses throughout the greater Miami region.

This 60-credit electrician program from Miami Dade College is considered a pathway degree because the student is guaranteed admission into one of Florida’s four-year public universities when completed.

Students complete 24 credit units of electives; the rest are core curriculum requirements.

This technical electricity program track at Lindsay Hopkins Technical College offers students a completion certificate during regular school hours.
