1 College For Technical Education

This state-approved trade school offers students the skills, training, and professional experience needed to succeed in the profession of their choice.

The electrical program offers classroom instruction, hands-on training, and the materials needed to become an electrician’s apprentice.

During this 12 month program, students will learn about national code, safety, wiring, customer service, and the tools and machines needed for the electrical trade.

The cost of the course is $12,000.

Financial aid is offered and most students qualify for at least half their tuition.

2 IEC of the Bluegrass

This non-profit school offers online and in-person courses, as well as apprenticeships.

The electricians program is 4 years to complete.

Students will be taking 144 hours of night classes each year, while working 2000 hours a year as a paid apprentice during the day.

Apprentices make $13.00 an hour while working towards their license.

Fifty-two cents an hour go to the training program in lieu of tuition.

This is one of the most comprehensive programs in the state of Kentucky.

It’s also the most affordable.

The IEC is approved and supervised by the US Department of Labor.

Candidates for the program must have a high school diploma or equivalent and pass regular drug testing.

This 2-year program will give students all the skills and knowledge necessary to embark on a career as a licensed electrician.

Students will also be placed with a master electrician to serve as an apprentice and gain the hours needed to advance.

Bluegrass Community Technical College was voted a “best school” for electrician training, by College Choice.

In this program, students will be taught logic, and how to analyze and troubleshoot problems related to electrical circuits and wiring.

Topics covered are residential and commercial electrical circuits, basic electrical theory, motor controls, conduit bending, programmable controls, fluid power.

Students will be well prepared to begin an apprenticeship.

The cost of tuition is $4500 for state residents.
