The American Red Cross in Delaware provides Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training for students who wish to pursue a career in health care.
This training is offered to prospective students at no cost.
It is a wonderful chance for students to get their start in a profession dedicated to assisting others or for those adults who wish to switch professions.
This training is carried out at accredited test-taking centers and once the program is completed, certification is attained through the state of Delaware.
While the program is completely free, prospective students will incur extra charges for certification and future renewals.

Certified Nursing Assistant Certification
Please note that in order to receive a CNA certification in Delaware you must complete the necessary course requirements before taking the state certification examination.
After receiving your certification you will further be required to meet a number of requirements before you can embark on your career as a certified nursing assistant.
In order to apply for the Delaware National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Examination, completion of an authorized CNA training course is mandatory.
A two year period between completion of the training program and successful passing of the NNAAP examination is the maximum time provided.
If you fail to pass your NNAAP examination within the time period provided, the training you received will be rendered null and void and you shall be required to receive new training in order to re-take the examination.
Training Duration
You must receive at least 75 hours of training throughout your program.
The training program should be diverse and must include classroom instruction and laboratory sessions.
In addition, at least half of the training program should be conducted on-site in authorized clinical settings so that you may have 37.5 hours or more of practical and supervised clinical training.
Examination
Following completion of your course, you will be required to pass a written exam as well as a practical exam to show your nursing skills.
These exams are mandated by the Delaware nursing board and you shall have one year to successfully complete them.
For those who wish to transfer their CNA license from another state to Delaware, you will first have to receive clearance from the Delaware nursing board and have your credentials approved before being included in the registry.
This process involves contacting other states where you have worked in order to carry out a basic background check.

Delaware CNA Training
In order to receive a CNA certification in Delaware, you are required to successfully complete nursing assistant training in an authorized training center and to pass the state-approved certification examinations at an authorized testing location.
The training programs, which should be at least 75 hours, are intended to fully equip you with all the information and skills required to pass the examinations.
Of these 75 hours, half of them should be spent in a clinical setting to ensure you receive adequate practical experience.
These programs typically run from 5 weeks to 12 weeks and cost anything from $1500 – $4000.
However, as earlier discussed, there are a number of institutions and health care facilities that offer CNA training at no charge.
There are also scholarships available and many learning institutions allow payment in installments.
For some learning centers, students may even be entitled to payment for the work they do during the clinical setting section of their training.

Beebe Medical Center offers an approved 150 hour certification training program which is equivalent to 36 credits.
Both the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services Division of Long Term Care have approved the training program and it is conducted at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing.
Classroom instruction takes place at The School of Nursing while clinical practice is conducted at Harbor Healthcare.
The total cost of the program is $1750 which is inclusive of all course materials and course texts.

Delaware Technical Community College

The Delaware Technical Community College also offers a 150-hour certification training program with 75 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction and 75 hours of on-site clinical training.
5 supplementary hours have been designated for mock testing and examinations.
Classroom instruction takes place at the Delaware Tech’s Owens Campus while clinical practice is conducted at a number of authorized clinical locations.
Classes take place 3 days a week from 5:00 pm – 10:30 pm.
The total cost of the program is $1550 which is inclusive of all course texts and CPR training.
There are also additional fees for admission, background check, drug testing, and examinations which total to $179.

Tri-State Technical School

Tri-State Technical School offers a 5-week training program for day classes and a 10-week training program for night classes.
Both programs cost a total of $2100 which is inclusive of all course texts and course materials, CPR and First Aid training and certification, background check, and examination fees.
